Artist Statement

ine, color and form intrigue me. Beautiful things touch me. That's why I fell in love with quilting.

After 15 years of quilting, which is a soft medium, I was looking for a way to introduce a harder edge, new texture and more dimension to my work. I began to create my geometric designs digitally, and "paint" them with fabric, or scanned cloth patterns from my actual "stash" of thousands of fabrics. I mount each design onto a wooden "tile" and embellish it with vibrant materials like metallic paper, fabric, paint, crystals, cabachons, cording, beads, wire and found objects, whatever suggests itself to me. To create additional dimension, and make each tile appear to "float" off of it's background, I attach supports to the back of each tile, then suspend them on a smooth black panel, which is also raised off the wall. I create my collages for the sheer joy of working with shape, texture, color and motion.

I once read: "Creativity takes us to the heart of it all. When we create something, we touch the hand of God". Perhaps this explains why I enjoy doing this work so very much.
